Posted by Carol on 7th May 2011
I never had an interest in tarantulas before & could not understand why anyone would want one, but once I got talked into a Pink Toed Tarantula & got the nerve to pick her up, I was hooked! My "Tootsie" is really cool, she weaves some really awesome webs, and she NEVER misses the catch when I throw her a cricket! Pink Toes are very calm as long as you move slowly & keep your hands inside the cage in case they get spooked & decide to jump! I got her a 12x12x18 habitat since Pink Toes like to climb vs dig, & shes been very easy to care for, just needs heat & humidity as if in the jungle. They're nocturnal but will tolerate handling during daylight hrs, after they eat (every other day or so), overnight they leave a milky type substance running down the glass which is kinda hard to get off. Also, she's moulted twice now & its the coolest thing~they climb completely out of their body with a flip-top lid & visible leg chambers, so I saved her old body's on my home office shelf, great convo piece. I'm a 52 yr old woman who obviously loves animals, and I just love my Pink Toed Tootsie! I also have 10 Emperor Scorions (had babies 9 wks old now) & a Bearded Dragon. Highly recommend the pink-toe as long as you're willing to provide proper housing w/ height, substrate, heat, moisture & gutt loaded crickets.
